Writing a Statement of Teaching Philosophy for the Academic Job Market

Workshop Description

Why do you teach? How do you teach? How do you measure your effectiveness? Most academic job applications require applicants to address these questions in a Statement of Teaching Philosophy (SoTP). Developing a SoTP can help you clarify your goals as an educator and reflect on how you teach. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn strategies to write a compelling SoTP. Participants are also encouraged to access and complete the self-paced online module, “Developing a Statement of Teaching Philosophy for Academic Job Applications,” before attending the session.
