It’s commonly said that “two heads are better than one” at solving problems…but only if they work well together! In this session, Dr. Miriam Markum (Microbiology and Molecular Genetics) will discuss how student group work can be structured to support more effective interactions between students, thereby yielding better learning outcomes. Participants will first reflect on their objectives for group work in their own classes. As a group, we will then consider the fundamental elements of successful group-based learning and explore a list of approaches to foster student teamwork. Participants will collaborate to expand on this list of approaches and identify one or two approaches they can implement in their courses.
