As disciplinary experts, academics read, write, and think about concepts in ways that are particular to our field of study. These discursive practices often become automatic and invisible to us, which can make teaching them to students a challenge. In this workshop for faculty, participants will be introduced to cognitive apprenticeship as a model for teaching disciplinary discourse and will come away with specific strategies to support students’ learning.
