Workshop Description
Instructors typically dedicate hours of in-class time to assess student mastery, sacrificing valuable learning time in the process. Happily, it’s possible to accomplish both assessment and learning through a two-stage exam format in which students complete an exam form first on their own and then with classmates. In this workshop, Dr. Miriam Markum (Microbiology and Molecular Genetics) will describe the two-stage exam structure in more detail and share the benefits of and best practices for this exam format. Participants will leave with the tools to design and implement collaborative assessments in a class of any size or format.
