Bio

My name is Sophie Green (she/her) and I’m a fourth year PhD candidate in Political Science. My research explores how our political institutions within the U.S. federalist structure and partisan dynamics shape local policy and governance. In my recent work, I examine how state governments influence local governance across several policy areas through the mechanism of preemption.

Before coming to UC Davis, I received my BA from Creighton University. I was fortunate to have professors who took the time to know me as a student and as a person. Their investment in me both inside and outside the classroom inspired me to pursue a career in academia and has also helped in shaping my approach to teaching. Since starting my program, I’ve had the opportunity of being a TA for both upper and lower division political science classes at UC Davis. I have also had the pleasure of TAing at the UC Center Sacramento where I help students develop and carry out their own independent research projects.

Outside the classroom, I enjoy trying new recipes, going lap swimming, playing board games and hanging with my crazy ginger cat.
